nokia battery circuit

hai

i opened a nokia battery recently. i found a circuit wired up with an ic

wt it for any idea?
 

inside nokia batteries

most battery packs whith chip inside are used for monitoring temprature,voltage,charge etc to make it 'smart'.
just search datasheet of the chip and you will have a better idea why its being used for.
 

At a minimum, it's a circuit that protects the Lithium cell from overheat, overvotage and overcurrent. It also (more importantly) protects the battery manufacturer from law suits. Here's a thread, where such protection circuits were discussed:
