Hello

I want to use one CC1020 (chipcon company) as transmitter(at 433MHZ) and the other one as receiver.

I want to add a 7W RF power amp (from mitsubishi at 433MHZ)between CC1020 output stage and antenna,Does it work properly for long ranges?
Is it OK to use these short range RFICs for long range applications?

Thank you.

Hi, You can but its not allowed I think in your country unless your an radio amateur !.

Regulation in my country: 7W is certainly not allowed

I know it is not legal (only you should have permission).

But technically speaking(do not think about laws) Is it possible?

Hi, You need to have the TX and RX input/output on the chip and split them or have them on different pin's. Than you can do it but you need proper equipment (spectrum analizer) to check your design for emissions etc... you also need a high power switch to switch between TX and RX !.

Its possible that an CC1020 or other CCXXXX is not having a clean enough close by spectrum, I mean the spectrum is much wider than needed and allowed by law. These devices are normally not designed for high power and the regulations for low power devices is less strickt compared with high power devices.

Paul.
