I want to make stepper driver for running four motors i.e. a 4 axis stepper driver for 3D printer. I want to do everything with scratch and wants a simple , easy , DIY cheap method. There are many stepper drivers available online but most of them are expensive as hell. So can you just let me know the easiest and cheapest model to drive the steppers.
What I have thought is to use Arduino and L293d but that will be requiring 3 PWM channels for each motor and Arduino only has 3 PWM channels.
Any help would be appreciable

You can buy a ready controller for three motors for as low as $35 from ebay (and several China eshops), I doubt you can do it any cheaper
