cell phone design layput

Hi all,
i recently got a job in a small company where they are doing research in cell phone designing.
I want to start with layout design.

As i dont have basic knowledge where should i start and what are the initial steps to be followed to design mobile phone.

Basically, a cell phone has the following blocks:
-Air interface
-Digital blocks
-Power

The design is pretty straight forward except the fact that it is much smaller footprints and high frequency of the Air interface.
