CE Certification identifying tests requirement

Hi,

May be this is a stupid question to ask, but experienced folks please guide me...

I ve a new project requirement .
This is a USB to Ethernet Converter module for an already existing product.The power input is 24V.
This product should be CE certified.
But I'm quite confused at deciding what all tests are applicable for this product in order to be CE certified .

The operating environment is not any harsh environment.but just specified as industrial. Operating temperature range is -4 to 50 degree..

So can some body guide me in choosing the appropriate tests required

like may be any of the following
Conducted Emission,radiated emission (classes?),Surge Tests ( upto how much level?), EFT,ESD, etc etc..

If you have no experience with CE, then I strongly suggest you to find a certified laboratory that will help you. They are expensive - say 500 to 1000€ per day - but in some cases you have no other choice.

The tests you have to sustain depend from many variables, but if you classify your interface as "laboratory equipment", then conducted+radiated+surge should be enough. At least this is my experience.

If your company holds the ISO9001 certification, and you are sure that your device has no CE problems, then you can self-certify the device. This is a common practice, but you or your CEO/CTO will need to sign the declaration of conformity... be careful ;-)

So mainly conducted+radiated+surge are the important things i should pay attention atleast..
But is there any method to determine that how much level i should meet in all these standards..
Like in RE shall i go for class A or class B, and in surge shall i test all the communication and power ports...and if required how much kV limit should i define for them.. etc
i had actually had some prior experience with these standards testing in external laboratory..but that time the level requirements were conveyed by the customer themselves..
So never had been in a position to define them by myself..
 

AFAIK, everything is precisely defined in the relevant ISO standards. Once you have decided which class your device belongs to (automotive, medical, IT, lab equipment and so on), ISO tells you not only the limits to respect, but also how to conduct the tests.

Defining the tests is very important and there are major differences between countries. For example for the radiated EM, in EU you must do three tests, and all of them must be below the profile. In China you only need a single shot inside the mask, and you are "certified" :)

So that means ISO standards is the one i should refer to.
But as you suggested i understand there are several categories like below..
Audio
Industrial automation
Laboratory
Medical
Information Technology
LED equipment
Telecom
Railway
Automotive

I searched a little bit but difficult to find a relevant standards from the huge ISO list below..

I would like to help you, but I can't. You are right, there is a huge list of ISO directives, and it is continuously changing and growing. I really suggest to ask to a specialist, or to a specialised laboratory. Take into account that doing mistakes with the CE marking can be painful and really expensive, so better not to risk!!
