Carbon Silicon Analizer for Molten metals

Hi all,
I am doing a project,which is used by the metal foundry industry to analyze the state & property of a molten metal could be for steel, iron etc. it is generally caled as cabon-silicon analizer, can any body out there can help me understand the basic concept & its implimentation using a microcontroller, what extra info is required to know about the metalurgy.. where can I find is there any good link for that info .
