the book's name is <physical design ofCMOS intetgrated circuits using L-Edit ">published in 1995 by PWS
i am newhand on ic layout
and hope u give some idea about the soft L-Edit

Tanner's L-Edit is good for explore, but not up to industrial need. If u have choice, u can try to move to Cadence...

how about this bool<<IC Layout Basics : A Practical Guide>> compared with the above one on layout of ic

Try reading Art of Analog Layout by Alan Hasting.

Yes, that book is a very good start for you to understand the concept about semiconductor and IC layout. It's easy to start with L-edit. After you are familiar with the tool, learn more about Unix and Virtuoso. That's the standard of the industry ! ( other tools such as ICstation, Laker are OK too)
