Let's say a semiconductor memory is specified as 4 GBytes. Can we tell the word size of the memory? Thanks.

You can tell the word size of the semiconductor memory by counting the number of data bus lines.
If we have only the information stated in my first post, and the number of data lines is not known, can we tell the word size? In my opinion, it's not possible, right? Thanks.

You are correct. That description provides no clue of the word size.

It is possible to tell how wide is the address bus but with out any other info it is not possible to tell the the word size of the memory.

To compute for Address bus size

2^n = 4GB
Take logarithm on both sides you get 32 address bus lines. If it happens that each memory location has 1 byte then you get 4GB
