Can Java be used to access the parallel/serial port?

Is it possible to use Java to access the parallel/serial port? I'm running WinXP and using Ready to Program IDE software.

As well as an examples, please.

Yes. Go to www.sun.com and search for serial port. You'll find all the info you need for paralel/serial port. Java has a library specialy for that. See

Can anyone recommend a very good Java tutorial on serial port communication as I am not very good at Java programming and don't understand it very well either. I have started with basic Java programming!
