hi,
i want to receive rf data coming from a uhf receiver without a receiver ic. i want to use an mcu instead. is it possible

There are some MCU that incorporate RF transceiver .You can use them.CC1010 from TI is an excellent one. Freescale have some product like that check it on freescale website in Product RF section www.freescale.com

I mean there is an RF receiver which outputs serial data, connected to the mcu. can i resolve the data via software?

Yes you can.Im hoping here that ur RF reciever output serial data in digital format.other wise it depends on MCU.

yes it outputs digital data. what is important when sending digital data? timing or high-low transitions?
