can anyone explain the terms in cadence for me?

I am really confused by the terms in Cadence layout tool virtuoso:
active, nactive, pactive, nselect, pselect. anyone can help?

Hi,
You should read a good basic VLSI design book before starting to launch tools. These are different layers used in layout. There is plenty of material available on the web, do google search. Some are:

I found the book "Basic CMOS VLSI Design" by Eshragian simple and nice.

no where I can find it. that is why I would ask it here. I learned VLSI many years ago and I have many book for it. But none of them mentions what are the differences between select layer and active layer?
