Suppose I am good at Synopsys Design compiler but do not know Cadence RC Compiler at all. How long will it take to adapt to Cadence RC Compiler? Will it be difficult to adopt to RC Compiler?

Design Complier and RTL Complier are two different tools used for RTL synthesis. They have different command syntax. DC provides scan compression while RC don't. DC is difficult to use compared to RC. I think if you are good with DC, you will easily pick-up RC.

DC and RC Compiler are not used only for DFT. They are mainly used for RTL synthesis.

Hi Yadav,

It should not be much of a problem I guess...as the basic concepts/optimization techniques will be similar barring some differences. Basically finding out the command for what you intend to do might be a little difficult in the beginning. Give anywhere between 2-3 weeks for getting accustomed to a new tool if you have already worked on similar tool. From there on the more you work on it the more confident you become.

cheers

Right, These tools are mainly used for RTL synthesis but they also support some DFT features like scan insertion. Design complier provides scan compression feature also. DFT complier is a DFT specialist tool.

RC compiler not good as DC!

I've used both DC and RC (and also Buildgates), and I would say they all give pretty good results. I am interested in knowing any particular reason when people claim one tool is better the other.

Hi ebuddy

The question was as follows:

Question: Suppose I am good at Synopsys Design compiler but do not know Cadence RC Compiler at all. How long will it take to adapt to Cadence RC Compiler? Will it be difficult to adopt to RC Compiler?

CAN U PLEASE ANSWER THE ABOVE QUESTION?

Hi Asic_intl,
Migrating from DC to RC will take 1 week for basic tool understand and database exploration. 1 more week to understand more detail commands.. total 2 weeks enough for complete understanding of RC.

Note: both tool commands are very similar.
