allegro spb

Hi to all, I am a new user of Cadence Allegro SPB 16.0 but I have been doing PCB layouts for quite a while already using another software(Zuken CR-5000). I would like to know how i can go about making irregularly shaped pad stacks in Allegro. And if there is anyone that can give me tutorial videos or documents for Cadence Allegro, I would greatly appreciate it. Our company is tight on budget so they decided not to get a professional Cadence Allegro trainor for us. Thank you very much.

Is inside Pad editor select shape from drop off menu, you can create your shape separately and then use them to define your pad stacks.

There are manuals and some training videos that comes with installation package.

Good Luck,

M

Thank you for your reply.
I have another question though, is there a way to automatically generate a solder resist for the irregularly shaped pad that I made? Its a bit time consuming having to draw another shape. Or is there a way to expand all the edges at the same time?

Or is there a way to expand all the edges at the same time?

Not sure what you mean by that?

But in the same window you can copy paste to any or all layers.

I have attached an image to explain what I meant. The black line is the pad, while the red line is the solder resist. As you can see, the resist is 6 mils bigger on all sides compared to the pads. I drew the pad already, is there a way to automatically make it 6 mils bigger on all sides so that I can use that as a shape for my solder resist? Or do I have to draw the entire solder resist separately also?

cadence 16.0 drawing option

As far as i know there is not automatic solder resist generation option in Cadence. But you can use the ix and iy commands to move all the edges 6 mills in x or y direction.

hello,

You have to enter those command in the command line window, at the very bottom of the allegro's window. You select the shape to move and then enter "ix 6" to move the shape.

Regards,
Franck.

Hi,

You can use z-copy shape from edit menu to oversize the shape.

Edit --> z-copy shape --> Options (control panel) --> (shape options) expand--> give the value that the shape to be oversized...

After that, Delete the existing shape.

Hope this will help u...

Thanks,
Ahar...

Hi Quattro44,
My company is considering switching to CR-5000 from Cadence Allegro SPB.
I used Mentor Board Station and Allegro for last 10yeas, zero knowledge in Zuken.
Can you please tell me your opinion about the two (Allegro and Zuken)?
Fasted design cycle is what the management expectation with Zuken.
Thanks in advance.

There are many reasons companies decide switching (not always technical or budgetary). Thanks for your reply.

Hi quattro,

If you want to generate solder resist for irregular shaped pad means. You can use Edit -> Zcopy option.

Thanks
