it is possible to build a rc snubber r = 100 ohms 1w and c=.1 250v x2 ?

my doubt is can i use x2 capacitor instead of ordinary capacitor.

kalyan

As long as your capacitor is rated for at least 400 VDC then it shouldn't be much of a problem, however, make sure to check its ESR to avoid excessive power dissipation in the capacitor (which would reduce the life time).

Re: bulding rc snubber using x2 capacitor

commercial snubbers for motors etc usually are plastic with built in R.

All X2 Class rated Caps are plastic as well as Y caps.

Specified self-healing qualities are essential for arc faults.
