Broken Miele S2 111 vacuum cleaner

Hi everyone.
My vacuum cleaner has died and I'd love to get it started again.

I've tested continuity from the plug to the board in both line and neutral.
The motor has continuity too.
The speed control knob has resistance. As does the smaller blue box beneath it.
The capacitor has resistance. (I replaced it assuming it was faulty).
The switch has continuity.
The bushings in the motor are good and spring well.

Any ideas? I'd like to get into fixing broken electronics and this seemed a good place to start.

This is like saying: my car doesn’t run. the tires are good, and so is the upholstery, what could it be?
There’s more to the electronics than just one capacitor. But I’m glad to know your blue box has continuity.
 
my mother's electrolux worked just fine for ever
just a switch and a motor
the brushes got replaced once
no circuit board

why does a vacuum cleaner need a speed control?

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I realise these things are not as straightforward as I might hope.
At the moment if I connect my multimeter to the line and neutral on the plug I get about 2M ohms rising to no reading after 3-4 seconds.
To me this indicates that the circuit is closed. Yet the motor remains dead with live electricity.
If you have any ideas, I'd love to benefit from your knowledge. Alternatively, if you can point me to sources where I can learn for myself, I'd be very grateful

With no schematic, it's impossible to tell you what's wrong. Your initial reading is typical of a capacitor charging, other than that, there's not much to infer about your poor vacuum. Have you measured the voltage at the motor terminals? (Be careful!) But it's not even clear if this is an AC or DC motor. And I, too, question why there's a 'speed control'.
