How do i breadboard or prototype fine pitch chips? and surface mount chips?

Since they don't fit into the breadboard pins how would you guys do this?

hi
for prototype of Surface mount chips u have to build the board layout.
if u want to use only surface mount ICs in your prototype, u can use sockets.
just solder the sockets on to the breadboard and then insert the SMT IC into it.

What are these Sockets called? that fit into the breadboard?

Are the called SMD sockets?

Fine pitch SMD sockets?

hi

am talking about wireboard (a bit different than fixed bread board).
u can call them sockets. they r available for almost all the ICs. coz we have to chop them as we need.
ex: we need to solder a 8-pin ic, the socket will be up to 32 pin or so..
u can chop the extra and use it.
i think u have come across PLCC sockets...

Hi,

What I do is, solder the surface mount chip to a DIL socket using fine gauge (28 to 32) wire. Plug DIL socket onto breadboard. Clean away flux at fine pitch SMD for stable test results. This need some skill in soldering and arranging lead wires if SMD has many pins.

On standard SOIC, may use a SOIC to DIL “converter” , example link :

If IC has more pins, prototype using PLCC, thru a PLCC to DIL converter.

Other alternatives for fine pitch device on prototyping building …
