bpf implementation

Hi,
I need to design a digital filter.
An analog signal passes an A to D and my goal is to block any frequencies outside a certain band.
For example:
I have a sinusoidal analog signal ranging from -1v to 1v
An a to d samples this signal at a sufficient rate and assigns bits as follows:
0.5 to 1v 00
0 to 0.5v 01
-0.5 to 0 v 10
-1 to -0.5v 11
How can I identify if the analog signal is at a specific frequency range?
More specifically 2-10Hz.
The output should be VHDL code.
Any suggestions?Reading materials?
Thanks.
