Battery charging with monitoring

Hi,
May be this topic discussed again n again here.
I want to make a battery charger circuit which will charge 12v 4.5AH Lead-Acid battery and monitor the charging through pic microcontroller/discrete logic.
Indication's of battery will be like that
one LED light up when battery is charging,
2nd LED light up when battery charging is complete.
3rd LED lightup when battery becomes low.
Anyone have an idea or link or circuit which will be helpful.
It would be better if the circuit wll based on microcontroller.
