can anyone tell me about the basics of Network on Chip (NoC) and the current trends in it... thanks for any help

I know there are several research chips such as RAW and TeraFlops and commercial chips such as Adaptiva that uses NoC for the communications architecture.

What project do you want to do? If you want to design the hardware, then just code the NoC with your desire features in HDL, then simulate it and measure its performance such as latency, throughput, power, etc. You can refer to this example to start with: https://opencores.org/project,nocem or https://corfu.pucrs.br/redmine/projects/atlas/wiki/NoC_Generation_for_Hermes.
