atmega16...

Most of the 40pin avr have same pin configuration except atmega8515, so you can use any avr and all of them are supported by codevision.

Hi,
I've also noticed the increase in price in ATMEGA32. This is because of parts shortage. It was declared by Atmel Norway that this happened due to parts shortage due to too high demands that they could not cope up with. You can find the article stating this in AVR Freaks
Look for the newer ATMEGA32A. It's almost same, but is cheaper and has a temperature sensor in the chip compared to the ATMEGA32.
As suggested, you can also use ATMEGA16(A). ATMEGA16A similarly is cheaper. You can use the older ATMEGA8515 or ATMEGA8535 as well but their pin configuration is different.

Hope this helps.
Tahmid.
