Automation of Home Appliances using Android

I have a project to make a system looking as follows

Bulb----Relay-------------Patch Panel --------Microcontroller ----Android Phone ~~~~~~Simple SMS via Mobile.

So I need to manage my android phone to connect with microcontroller i.e PIC452 and on receiving an sms it gives command to microcontroller to automate all the things attached.
Please help me in doing so :???:

why not use a wifi realy shield or ethernet realy shield for control.
