atmega8l fuse bit setting for external crystal of 8MHz

Hello friends,

I'm want to operate atmega8L from external crystal of 8MHz and I'm planning to change its fuse bits as follow

High fuse = 0XD9
Low fuse = 0XFF

i just wanted to know that is it correct or not? Since i dont want to lock any more chip now

Yes, your setting is fine, you can check using https://www.engbedded.com/fusecalc

Note that for crystals >8MHz you should program the CKOPT fuse but for 8MHZ both modes will work
