Are there any low-cost synthesis and/or P/R CAD tools available?

Hi,

Just wondering if there were any low cost logic synthesis and/or place/route CAD tools available? Are Synopsis/Mentor and Cadence the only options?

FPGA vendors provide free tools, but I think if you are going to spend thousands and thousands thousands of dollars (or Euros or Shekels or whatever) to fabricate an ASIC, you don't want to scrimp on your tools.
