Are fog lights red because its lower frequency?

Hello,
If fog lights are red, then since its lower frequency light, will it travel further through the fog droplets, as opposed to white or amber lights?

I Think even if they travelled further it would be neglegible. There was a debate a few years ago about yellow versus white for the front fogs, but eventually white has won, since in reality the yellow light was an ordinary bulb with a filter... which in practice ends up reducing the total output.

As to the reason for the color, cccording to the highway road code amber or white lights are not allowed on the reverse of a vehicle (with exception for reverse which are used to iluminate the rear for driver visibility reasons). Under foggy conditions these could be confused with a car going the wrong way

Up to about 20 years ago the French used to use yellow headlights. :laugh: Sacre Bleu!!
