Can anyone elaborate:----

in Standard -cell-based ASIC, all mask layers are customized??

thanks in advance

It means you dont have anything in advance except design specification. You have to start designing from scratch....You have to define poly, diffusion areas, wells, wiring etc...

Reddy, are you aware of the semiconductor manufacturing process??
Only then it'll be easy for you to understand this....

Re: customized?

Dear Dude,

in a simple way, the standard cell mask can be altered according to the need

or

Standard cell based is also called as CBIC,

The standard-cell areas (also called flexible blocks) in a CBIC are built of rows of standard cells—like a wall built of bricks.

The standard-cell areas may be used in combination with larger predesigned cells, perhaps microcontrollers or even microprocessors, known as megacells .

The ASIC designer defines only the placement of the standard cells and the interconnect in a CBIC.
However, the standard cells can be placed anywhere on the silicon; this means that all the mask layers of a CBIC are customized and are unique to a particular customer.
The advantage of CBICs is that designers save time, money, and reduce risk by using a predesigned, pretested, and precharacterized standard-cell library

Re: customized?

you can't change W/L of the transistors

can you specify in which context are you saying this??
