applications of DC voltage regulators

hi all. i have a presentation to make (tomorrow!) and my part includes the applications and uses of dc voltage regulators. i need a list of some applications so that i can do further search on them.Thanks

Some ideas:
- Regulating battery voltages (cell phone, such that the CPU gets a consistent 1.8/2.5/3.3/etc volts)

- Regulating voltages from high-efficiency voltage converters (use a SMPS to do large voltage change, then a linear regulator to reduce that intermediate voltage to a final value.... like 48V to 7V w/ SMPS, then 7V to 5V with an LDO).
