A dipole antenna was the common type attached to the walls of dorms and apartments for reception of FM stations. Simple and easy to make from 300 ohm twin lead.
A dipole antenna formed the main element of a yagi antenna which I built to pull in a TV channel 90 miles away. I added several elements which were copper wires cut to calculated lengths, at a certain spacing.
