site:edaboard.com pre-emphasis

I am confusing these two concepts in data transmission.

Equalization term seems to be broader range.

Thanks.

One is on transmitter side, the other on receiver side. They have the same effect in improving eye openning for data transmission across lossy media. One advantage equalization over pre-emphasis is that it could be implemented in an adaptive manner so that the receiver can autmatically ajusting its equalization levels due to diifferent channel setup.
