AMR (Automatic Meter Reading)

Dear ALL......
I am working in Riyadh(KSA) in an Electrical Engineering Factory. I've a project of AMR.
Actually we have to built such a system which can automatically take the Electric meter readings from utilities and sent the data to DCU (Data collection Unit) through a LAN/WAN media.
I want a detailed knowledge about this. Is there any one to help me in this regard?

What kind of physical quantities you'll measure is that Voltage Current and Power/KWH , PF etc
