altera Nios II processor

in web page of altera , it say a lot of thing about Nios II processor. It is not clear to me that This is new device (chip different from FPGA) or using the Cyclone II FPGA as a 32 bit processor with configurate the FPGA

NIOS II is a soft core IP and can be configured into your FPGA along with your own design.
This way you can modify the system surrounding the NIOS processor and add any device you fancy in the same FPGA chip.
