I am trying to determine the best way to detect air flow across a cylinder in a non-invasive way. Here are the parameters: The cylinder is composed of human tissue. It's not necessary to quantify flow, only to detect its presence or absence. I'm wondering if a design using two ultrasonic transducers measuring signal differences under those two states is the best option. Another constraint is that I would like for this sensor to be no bigger than 2x3 in., and the cylinder is 1-2 inches in diameter, but it is variable.

I would really appreciate any input you can provide. Is ultrasound the best way to go? What would be the best frequency?

You may wan't to sketch the geometry to clarify the meaning of across.
