advantages and disadvantages of coupling

what are advantages and disadvantages of capacitively coupled amplifiers

Advantages and disadvantages depend on particular field of application. There's no way to make DC amplifier with capacitive coupling ;)
Advantage: possibility of independent DC offset for adjacent amp stages, when it needed.
Disadvantages: more complicated schematic; limit of lower frequency...

one thing we ve to remember is this world is of VLSI..
so everything in electronics is being made on small chip...
Next thing is a single discrete amplifier cant provide desired gain..
so the choice for us is...
MULTI STAGE IC AMPLIFIERS..
if we use capacitive coupling b/n each stage then the folowing are disadv.
1. more chip area..bcoz capacitors will occupy large area on chip.
2.propagation delay increases due to large time constants..
also some other probs like ckt complexity ,stability et...
hope its clear.
srini.

I can remember that the CMRR is not so good for ac coupled amplifiers.
