contactor coil current

hi guys im not sure if im in the right place here but im kinda stuck on one of my trade test questions

that is what causes the difference in current measured and current calculated in an ac contactor coil and explain.. something to do with reactance?

any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers chris

ac contactor coil

When the contactor is in open state, the inductance of the contactor coil is low so that a higher current will pass through it (as there is an air gap in its magnetic path).

When the contactor is closed, the inductance of the contactor coil increase so less current is passed through it (since there is a smaller (or no!?) air gap in its magnetic path now).

Regards
