3 cd4017 cascaded

Guys i want to design a 32 LEDs sequancer (to light one after another automaticaly) say 1 secound between them.

Can this be achived

series sequencing 4017s

Goto:
**broken link removed**
where you will find several versions of LED sequencers based on the CD4017 counter ..

28 led sequencer

Hi Kingofking,

It can be done. :D

circuito 32 led programmable sequencer

Thanks on1aag will try it and let u know

Hi again on1aag

I have tried it on my multisim but it didn't work, only one LED is lightening each time i run the circuit. see the attached circuit.

The counter doesn't seem to work !!! pls advise.

74hc4060 rc oscillator

Hi Kingofking,

Of course the counter doesn't count !
You grounded the RC network of the oscillator !
Remove this ground connection.
Also change the value of R2 to 100k.

led sequence

Hi on1aag,

Sorry to bug you dear, but i tried it once more and it didn't work, again the counter won't count. Doesn't need a clock to count. I have put an oscilloscope and all i see is zero no signal.

Also i put an oscilloscope on the counter pins and all were zero !!!

When I run the circuit only one LED from one array light, it doesn't go on sequence.

74hc4040 multisim

I have found in the datasheet for the 74HC4060
''The oscillator may be replaced by an external clock signal at input RS. In this case keep the
other oscillator pins (RTC and CTC) floating.'' I did that but still the counter won't work don't know why. I used the 555 timer to generate the clock.

32 led sequencer

Hi Kingofking,

There can be only one reason why the 4060 won't count and that is a
reset condition ! The databook says and I quote:

"A RESET input is provided which resets the counter to the all-0's
state and disables the oscillator. A high level on the RESET line
accomplishes the reset function."

I know that and so do you, but does your simulator knows that too ?
Put a logical "1" level on the reset input and see what happens !?

Hi on1aag,

The simulator doesn't allow me to put a logic 1 on the MR while its running so no use.

I have tried another counter(74hc4040) and it work ok, but there is a problem !!

when running the sequence is working fine but the LEDs some times bounce back or reset.

i.e. after 2 or 3 LEDs light goes in the sequence the 1st LEDs blinks but the sequence is ok. Don't know whats thed problem.

Don't know if u have this multisim9 simulator so i can send u the file.

have a look at the attach file.

Hi,

Here is a PIC Controlled 32-LED's.

Cascade 4017s.
see 18 Stage LED Sequencer at **broken link removed**
also check 60 Light Sequencer using a Matrix on the page above.

check 4017 data sheet.

There is no need to use a resistor for each LED. Tie all the anodes together and use one resistor from anodes to Vcc. My National Semiconductor data book recommends that R1(resistor connected to pin11)10X greater than R2(resistor connected to pin10) with the 4060 RC oscillator
