hi guys

im using a 9v battery and a 7805 voltage regulator to get a +5V output . will i require a heatsink?

That will depend on the amount of current You consume.
If its just 50 mA You need the dissipation would be 4 Volt x 50 mA=200mW if it would be 500mA that would make 4Volt x 500mA= 2 watt
Look in the datasheet of the 7805, look for the Rthja and You can calculate the heat it would generate with a certain output current (after You calculate the Watt's dissipated)

Dear power--man
Hi
for this case i don't thing that heat sink required .

its a general custom to add heat-sink to 7805 because aswalkura said , it depends on current you draw .

But most of the time if other components on your circuit are far enough from 7805 , "YOU CAN NEGLECT A HEAT SINK"

hope this helped
