I have a weird problem starting to pop up with a product I work on that uses a 68HC11, specifically a 68HC711K4 (84 pin PLCC).

It seems that we are getting a failure where the processor throws an invalid opcode interrupt. Some of the failures involve the complete corruption of ROM. I have looked at noise and other environmental factors, and come up with no solution or even cause for the problem. The product was performing fine for years until these problems have surfaced.

Could these issues be caused by getting a bad batch of HC11's? Or a batch where the shelf life has expired or the storage conditions not met? Our PCB assembly house did recently send us a shipment of boards where EVERY processor was bad. Is it possible that the last couple batch before that had processors where the durability was compromised?
