I need to replace a 3n211 dual gate mosfet that is used in an old high dynamic range HF preamplifier drawing 12v at 30mA.

is the 40673 also suitable?

Can you suggest me other more modern alternatives (non-smd)?

Most of the (non-SMD) replacements for those transistors are obsolete.
From the old Philips list you may get some of them from the surplus market at fair price: BF960, BF961, BF963, BF964, BF966, BF980, BF981.

You could consider a MMIC as a functional equivalent for most purposes.
If all else fails, I have two new 3N154s here you can have, they are similar spec but intended for military use.

Brian.
