24 v DC to 5 v DC converting

Hi guys,
I need to reduce 24 volts, 1 amp DC to 5 volts, 1 amp DC.
for operating beetel 220BX ADSL2 + Modem
Can anyone help? Details would be much appreciated.

You can use LM2596 switching regulator. The cost of a board from ebay is about $1 so you may as well buy a ready solution

Note that you should avoid linear regulator solutions like LM7805 or LM317, they are inefficient and generate too much heat when the in/out level difference high.
 

switching based step down converter is the way too go for efficiency and thermal issue. 1A*19V, too much power disspation in the chip
