36v dc to 12v dc circuit

have a 36vdc golf cart using (6) 6vdc batteries wired in series and i want to install a 12vdc car stereo and some 12vdc lights what is the best type of circuit to build to achieve this?

how to wire a radio in a golf cart

It can be don in several ways ..
For example, you can use the 2nd tap (connection between the second and third battery) that gives you 12V (6+6) and feed this to any 12V-device you like ..
This, however, may (and will) drain the two “bottom” batteries ..
More “elegant” solution is to build a number of small switching dc-dc converters and supply each device of one of them ..
The main advantage is that they will operate of 36V and that also means that all batteries are equally drained ..
There is a range of very reliable (and inexpensive) ICs that can be employed to do this ..
For example:
LM2575 (1A load current)
LM2576 (3A load current)
LM2678 (6A load current) and so on ..
