13.56MHz RFID read range = 2 x( aperture of antenna)????

hi,

i have to design a passive 13.56mhz rfid antenna that is capable of at least a meter range.
reading from an article saying the effective range is twice the aperture of the antenna(flux lines length), hence it is possible to construct say a loop or meandered loop antenna with such sizes to meet the read range...
please comment on this or
probably you have other way and means to extend the range to at least a meter modifying the antenna alone.
