power supply without transformer

Hello,

I need a circuit for 5v/12v DC supply from 110/220 AC. The common way is to use a transformer, a bridge and a voltage regulator. I know this way, but it is needed to be done without using trans becasue of its weight. The maximum current is 500 mA. A friend told me to use HV capacitors instead of Trans to reduce the AC voltage, the other parts are the same.

Is it possible to make this circuit? Is any idea about it? Does anybody know any reference?

Thanks in advance.

220 ac to 12 dc

transformerless power supply for 500mA current
is not economic. it is better to use switching power supply with one IC and small ferrite transormer

12dc 220ac

There is also the safety issue. Transformers should always be used in home built projects.

220 ac to 5 dc

The X2 type capacitor for 500mA is quite bigger than a small transformer!
Check the Power Integration TOPswitch-serie.

I would like to more about this configuration

power supply design without transformer

it low amp. i want 5A how i do?

circuit+220v+without transformer

use TOP Switches such as TOP226 . see datasheet .

500ma transformerless power supply

yes ok, but remenber ing as already said for safety of isolation via trxformer is good.

but you can just rectify and use a buck converter if you wanmt...but it will have low duty cycle but who cares ?

so just use a buck.....and a high side driver u use bootstrap driver as you dislike pulse transformer i think.

and can the LNK306 DO 500 mA...? if it can ur prob is solved

it is from powerint.com

what about a tapped buck converter....which has longer duty cycle for you.
