10 Gbps Ethernet platform

Hi

I need a board supporting 10 Gbps Ethernet. ML605 has this feature. But according to the datasheet of Virtex 6, this FPGA has 1000 Mbps Ethernet MAC block. so it is not possible to implement 10 Gbps ethernet! is it? How?!

I saw some other boards with Altera FPGAs featuring 10/100 Gbps Ethernet! I don't know anything about Altera FPGAs. Is it really possible to implement a 100 Gpbs with that FPGA?

Briefly what platform is suitable for 10 Gbps ethernet?

Thanks in advance

Where do you see 10G feature of ML605 DevKit?

Which 10G physical layer are you referring to? I don't know if respective IP is provided by Xilinx, but Virtex6 should be able to handle the XGMII media independent interface, probably also 3 GB/s XAUI.

you would need an FMC card with a 10gbps phy. Hitech global makes such a card with an ael2005. IIRC, the ael2005 does 10GBase-SR/LR/LRM. It connects to the FPGA using XAUI, which uses 4 of the 3.125Gbps transmitters on the FPGA. The XAUI logic is implemented partially in the GTX's, and partially in FPGA fabric. The 10Gbe MAC is implemented entirely in FPGA fabric.

This is similar to the faster 40/100Gbps designs, where multiple high speed links connected to an external module which actually connects to the physical channel. The newer FPGAs have 10Gbps links, with 25Gbps links available on select models. This allows for the 10x10G and 4x25G signalling to an external module. In the MAC would be done in FPGA logic as well.

Typically 10Gbps presents a 64b data bus to the FPGA logic and runs at 156.25MHz.

Does Hitechglobal give 10G Mac IP Core with the FMC or networking development boards? Or I should buy the core separately?

I found 10G Ethernet MAC in Xilinx Core Generator for XC6VLX240T!! Does it really work on this device (LXT)?
Are the Hitech FMC cards compatible with ML605?
