Hi,

I am using ATMEGA8L Microcontroller and Code Vision AVR Compiler.

When i tried to program the device i am getting following message.

Chip Signature Mismatch.
Read: Byte0=1Eh Byte1=00h Byte3=07h
Must be: Byte=1Eh Byte1=93h Byte3=07h

I also tried selecting Programming and Verification disabled unser Flash Lock Bits Section. But same message is coming.

Can anybody help me out in this regard.

Thanks and Regards,
Viswanath

Re: atmega8L Problem?

HI

Check the JTAG connection - probably there is a bad or disconnected wire

All the best

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

and it is working for another ATMEGA8 device.

Where comes the JTAG in atmega 8?????

to yviswanathbe

The Signature bits must be corrupted or the chip is gone

Re: atmega8L Problem?

Hi Nandu,

the chip worked well before with internal oscillator.
I have connected an external crystal and accordingly I have changed the FUSE bits.
Here i got the problem.

does the chip go bad if i modify the FUSE bits?

I am getting confusion in setting the FUSE bits. Can you send me some tutorial for selecting the FUSE Bits.I am using CodeVision AVR compiler.

Thanks and Regards,
Viswanath.

Re: atmega8L Problem?

Which version of Codevision are you using? There´s no confusion in bits selection. When they are cleared they become a "1", so you need to mark only the ones (place a "x" in the box) you want to become a "0". If you´re using an extermal xtal don´t forget to place small caps (10 to 22pF) to GND from either pin.
