Suggest me a digital project related to logic design

Can anyone suggest any projects related to logic design..

the project is to be based on 90% digital stuff.. like counters, flipflops, latches, gates, registers, encoders, decoders, multiplexers, demux......

PC interfacing, Microcontrollers, PLDs are not allowed.
???

If you are new with these projects then you can try making a digital clock...
else you can try implementing any system like electronic lock......

I have a schematic here, a discrete TTL 24 hour clock with 7-seg displays.

and nopes, the limitation is that the projects are assigned to other students...

UART module in discrete componets can be tough i hope... it can be implemented easily with programmable logic devices....

U can better design an ALU handling integer data.. It ll have latch , mux etc..

If u r so interested in counters , then design divide by an integer(6 or 9 etc) counter...

How about a capacitance meter. Just need a counter a couple of 7segments and equal amount of 7segment drivers maybe some others elements. Just need to measure the discharging time of the capacitor under observation, this can be done using a counter and dsiplaying the final count on the 7segments. Some setting will need to be done in order to obtain a result equivalent to the value of the capacitance.

think designing an alu for a beginner witll be tough... it will require lot of design and it will be tedious to do with latches,counters....etc....

I dont think for designing integer type ALU , v should need advanced knowledge of digital.. For floating type , its difficult for a newbie..
