Are you getting the command prompt? Which linux distribution you are using?

booting

what is the last thing u do in the GUI, did u change "\etc\inittab" file?

booting

You also should check your XF86config.conf or Xorg.conf file.

booting

or you can let it boot to runlevel 5 i think.
read up on "telinit", "inittab" and "runlevel".

Re: booting

It's probably as Anno says. Anyway, to see if this is the problem, start your system and once it gives you the login termanal (CLI), log in and run the command:

init 5

and see if that helps. If it then gives you a gui, then you have to modify some files to make it automatic depending on your distribution.

Re: booting

LINUX usually performs scan its partitions. So may be /root, /home and /boot are different partitions, and if thats so its OK.

In many LINUX distributions NFS server starts by default. Then try to remove it from your run level. There used to be tools like "ntsysv" in redhat.

For the GUI mode try "startx" after logging in from the command line.

booting

U can boot into rescue mode (if using Fedora Core) and check the xorg.conf file, located in /etc/X11. Or edit /etc/inittab to boot into texe mode.

Re: booting

See Buddy
Reboot & go to BIOS.
Disable on chip Audio,Network support .
If I am not wrong you must be using Intel 945 series motherbords.
If true, then this will solve your problem.
