hi!

What is the advantage of active filter over passive filter and why we need active filter ? Thanks

Re: filter

Active filters are used at lower frequencies where the L and C values of passive filters are so large that they have large volumes, weights and cost.

active filter can be implemented in IC. some components in passive filter can not be implemented easily. for example inductor.

Re: filter

Normally passive filter composed from RLC so the dimension could be quite big and also high cost, and it's been used with Low frequency. But active filter actually composed from Opamp (IC), so the mass, cost have been minized and always used with high frequency range.

This is my idea,

Re: filter

I find some info on the below link. It has the comparision about Active, Passive and Switch-cap. Each has it's own strength and weakness.
