i also am looking into battery backup. i need 12.6 volts for 120 seconds at 1.5-2 amps. i am looking at some of national semiconductor battery solutions. the circuit has to be charging when there is 12 to 24 votls present on the input and when the input drops out, the battery votlage supplies the 12 volts via diode OR.

let me know if you have ideas on batteries and circuit applications to fit my bill. The research i have so far has landed me with 1-2 chips from national semiconductor. Please let me know of any good readings or suitable chhips for my apps. Thanks again to the community for your help!
