The difference between voltage and current transformer?

Current Transformer
A current transformer is designed to provide a current in its secondary which is accurately proportional to the current flowing in its primary.

Current transformers are commonly used in electricity meters to facilitate the measurement of large currents which would be difficult to measure more directly


Voltage Transformers
Voltage transformers (also known as potential transformers) are used in the electricity supply industry to measure accurately the voltage being supplied. They are designed to present negligible load to the voltage being measured.
 

TRansformer

Current transformer:
input current is definite (or constant AC) but it's voltage drop must limited (with use of secondery fixed resistor).
CT usualy used to measure current flow.

Voltage Transformer:
input voltage is definite (usualy fixed) and output current must not exceded maximum value.

Theorically both of them are the same.

A current transformer is defined as "as an instrument transformer in which the secondary current is substantially proportional to the primary current (under normal conditions of operation) and differs in phase from it by an angle which is approximately zero for an appropriate direction of the connections." This highlights the accuracy requirement of the current transformer but also important is the isolating function, which means no matter what the system voltage the secondary circuit need be insulated only for a low voltage.

A voltage transformer is defined as one in which "the secondary voltage is substantially proportional to the primary voltage and differs in phase from it by an angle which is approximately zero for an appropriate direction of the connections."
This, in essence, means that the voltage transformer has to be as close as possible to the "ideal" transformer. In an "ideal" transformer, the secondary voltage vector is exactly opposite and equal to the primary voltage vector, when multiplied by the turns ratio.

output of current transformer never be opened and
output of voltage transformer never be shorted.
there is a kind of current transformer in hall effect based .It can be used for bout ac and dc current measuring application.

you can not open the current transformer while there is current in the primary because there will be current in the secondry if you open the secondary the current will pass in the air and that will cause breakdown and failure inside the transformer, asfor voltage transfrmer you can not short circuit its secondary terminals because it will pass avery high current that will melt and destroy the wires of the transformer .the current transformer is composed of a circular hollow magnetic core with a current carrying conductor passing in the its inner ( center ).
and its secondary is anomber of turns wound aroundthe limb. I preferr uoy read about current transformerin at least 3 books ( that may be about 3 pages in each book)because each writer has a different way of explanation and this will make you feel the subject ( that as I guess is what you need ).

Hi
A pulse transformer is a ferrite transformer with at least 2 separate windings it is used mainly in blocking oscillator by feeding back an output signal by 1 winding to the input by the 2nd winding.

one is used to step up or step down the voltage while the other is used for current

In connection the difference between them in connection one is connected in series and the other is connected in parallel.
