datashift 74ls164

hi friends,

if i send some 8-bit serial data to shift register 74ls164 and stop, will the data be latched on output of this serial-to-parallel convertor 74ls164. if no, which ic or technique can i use to do the same.

thanks.

I think it is suitable to use 74LS595 it has latch.

You can use either 164 or 595 with the same effect .. 595 has additional latches and tri-state outputs ..
In both cases you need serial data and clock signal which has to synchronized with serial data ..
74164: when you clock data in and stop the clock signal data will stay in its parallel format ..
74LS595: the same as above but you need also to latch signal in output latches and activate outputs ..
Regards,
IanP

Thanks a lot hassan1980 and especially IANP. 74ls164 worked out. I had not connected pin 9 (clear) of 74ls164 to postive. now after connecting it's working fine.

Anyway, Thanks once again.

Simply, you can use D-FlipFlops in serial to complete your task! (But this is a bad way!:D)
