flash memory read write and erase

Can I say that flash memory is a Read/Write Memory?
Thanks.

flash is a read/ write memory but u cant alter a register. i.e u cant erase a particular regisiter but u have to erase the entire flash. while in case of EEPROM or a RAM u can modify the contents of a particular register.

Flash memory is a non-volatile memory device that retains its data when the power is removed. The device is similar to EPROM with the exception that it can be electrically erased, whereas an EPROM must be exposed to ultra-violet light to erase.Flash memory does not need a constant power supply to retain its data and it offers extremely fast access times, low power consumption, and relative immunity to severe shock or vibration. These qualities combined with its compact size, make it perfect for portable devices like scanners digital cameras, cell phones, pagers, handhelds and printers. Flash chips.

A RAM-ROM hybrid that can be erased and rewritten under software control. Flash is an in-circuit programmable nonvolatile memory segmented into blocks called sectors. Each sector can be individually erased, then the data within it rewritten.

hi
Flash memory is a form of EEPROM that allows multiple memory locations to be erased or written in one programming operation. In lay terms, it is a form of rewritable memory chip that, unlike a Random Access Memory chip, holds its content without maintaining a power supply. The memory is commonly used in Memory cards and USB Flash drives.

HI onemilimeter;
yes FLASh is a READ/Write mempry but with limitation that it cannot be written in one byte or one memory location data like RAM. the data has to be deleted first before writing to FLASH like EEPROM.

FLASH - A special type of EEPROM that can be erased and reprogrammed in blocks instead of one byte at a time.
The principal difference is that EEPROM requires data to be written or erased one byte at a time whereas flash memory allows data to be written or erased in blocks.
This makes flash memory faster.

EPROM come also as EEPROM that is Electrically Erasable PROM
